Confidentiality has always been important in health care. Consumer's privacy rights are now legally enforced through HIPAA,

federal legislation designed to protect private health information.

 

This 23-minute DVD describes HIPAA guidelines and teaches home care personnel about confidentiality and the importance of maintaining privacy rights in a variety of settings.

 

Topics include: respecting client's right to privacy, definition and purpose of HIPAA, common identifiers for Protected Health Information, protecting your client's privacy and redirecting questions, client's right to view his/her own medical records, knowing who is authorized to receive medical information, medical records management and security, the Minimum Use requirement, guidelines for telephone and fax, proper disposal of Protected Health Information, computer security and HIPAA penalties.

 

The DVD was produced and directed by Marion Karpinski, R.N., a well-known authority in the field of caregiver training.
