When your family member is on bedrest, you
will be performing tasks commonly done by nurses. Nurses receive
training so that they are competent to carry out their work safely.
You
need training to perform care skills, too. Without it, there is a much
greater risk of injuring your family member or yourself.
Learn everything you need to know about common bedrest positions,
moving and positioning a person in bed, making an occupied bed, the
importance of proper posture and body mechanics, bedpan use, active
range of motion exercises, using a Hoyer lift and recognition and
prevention of pressure ulcers.
